Symptoms of Anxiety in Teens

  • Irritability, mood swings, or anger (anxiety in teens can easily look “behavioral”)
  • Consistent or excessive worry
  • Complaints of physical problems such as headaches, stomachaches, or tiredness with no physical cause
  • Problems sleeping: falling asleep, staying asleep, etc.
  • Continually seeking the approval of adults
  • Difficulty concentrating or lack of motivation
  • Avoidance of social activities or withdrawal from friends
  • Not wanting to go to school, fears associated with school
  • Complaints of physical symptoms prior to school
  • Inability to stop the worry despite reassurance
  • Experimentation with alcohol or drugs
