Symptoms of Depression in Teens
- Sad, anxious or empty mood
- Irritability or anger
- Tearfulness or frequent crying
- Withdrawal from friends or family
- Hours spent alone in room (more than usual, with door closed or locked)
- Loss of pleasure or interest in school/social activities
- Changes in eating habits
- Agitation or feeling “on edge”
- Lack of motivation
- Fatigue or lack of energy
- Sleep disturbance
- Difficulty concentrating
- Declining school performance
- Self-harming actions (i.e. cutting or severely scratching skin)
- Thoughts of death or suicide
