Symptoms of Depression in Teens

  • Sad, anxious or empty mood
  • Irritability or anger
  • Tearfulness or frequent crying
  • Withdrawal from friends or family
  • Hours spent alone in room (more than usual, with door closed or locked)
  • Loss of pleasure or interest in school/social activities
  • Changes in eating habits
  • Agitation or feeling “on edge”
  • Lack of motivation
  • Fatigue or lack of energy
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Declining school performance
  • Self-harming actions (i.e. cutting or severely scratching skin)
  • Thoughts of death or suicide
